At the end of the competition I completed a post survey. The results were positive. The previous eight students that didn't like to read was now only one student. This showed students were enjoying the literacy process I had developed and were more interested in their own learning. This is important if we are going to catch struggling readers. They need to enjoy some part of the process to engage with it more fully. Although the competition and project had to have a completion date. I continued to build the intrinsic motivation for students. I incorporated further choice for students in what they choose to engage with during the literacy block. This idea of choice is directed and structured to ensure students are engaging in multiple literacy experiences.
