The competition was developed with inclusion in mind. To receive an entry form students would read 25 pages or a book, which ever happened first and they would get an entry form. This allowed students of all reading levels to be able to be apart of the competition. I also decided not to add names to the entry forms that went on the bulletin board. This was done to ensure everyone felt successful in the process.
Once students selected their reading goal, this was done on Friday, I would develop the activities in the daily 5 binders, for the next week, relating to the students reading goal to meet the students learning level. This allowed students to engage in the same process creating an inclusive classroom environment and differentiating the activities within to meet the students learning needs. I wanted to encourage students to continue to develop their literacy abilities by creating an inclusive environment driven by students own interests and meeting students learning needs. |
